While out in the woods, Richard Cypher runs across a young woman in flight...or
rather she runs across him. As Richard lends a hand, he discovers that there's
more to his heritage, the people around him and the world than he knew.
Goodkind spent a lot of time creating his magic system. It's one of the
most completely described systems of the genre. Wizards, Sorcerers, Sorceresses,
Warlocks and Witch Women all use magic uniquely. But even within these classes
of magic users there are further distinctions. For example, some wizards can
heal while others wage war. Still others, the feared Mord'Sith can turn
magic against its user.
I found a couple of the books, especially The Pillars of Creation to be
slow moving, but the Sword of Truth reads easily and is enjoyable throughout the
series. The final three books in the series redeem the slower middle books.
Chainfire, Phantom and Confessor are all excellent stories and complete the tale.
There is a TV series based on the story called Legend of the Seeker. It is
very well done despite the edit for the medium.
