A Song of Ice and Fire

George R. R. Martin

Recommend

With the death of King Robert, the Iron Throne no longer unites the land under a single, loved ruler but instead puts in the hands of a child of dubious origin who isn't the only one with a claim to the seat.  Meanwhile, the bastard son of a noble departs to join the Nightwatch and thereby dedicate his life to defending The Wall while his half brother, a legitimate noble seeks both vengeance and honor.  But while nobles stake their claims, outside The Wall, things are transpiring than could ultimately sweep aside even a united kingdom.

Martin tells the tale as more of a lesson in history than from the point of view of a single main character.  Three stories are intertwined and just how they all come together remains to be seen as the final three books are yet to be published.
