With the death of King Robert, the Iron Throne no longer
unites the land under a single, loved ruler but instead puts
in the hands of a child of dubious origin who isn't the only
one with a claim to the seat. Meanwhile, the bastard
son of a noble departs to join the Nightwatch and thereby
dedicate his life to defending The Wall while his half
brother, a legitimate noble seeks both vengeance and honor.
But while nobles stake their claims, outside The Wall,
things are transpiring than could ultimately sweep aside
even a united kingdom.
Martin tells the tale as more of a lesson in history than
from the point of view of a single main character.
Three stories are intertwined and just how they all come
together remains to be seen as the final three books are yet
to be published.
In 2011, HBO will be featuring a new series based on these novels.
